Ultimate Guidance of Choosing Spin-down Sediment Filters

Posted On 02/17/2021 By iSpring Water Systems

Often, water sources get clogged and filled with different types of contaminants that affect the quality of water. Pollutants with bigger granules like sand, grit, and other sediments are hard to take out using regular sediment filters, which may require filter replacement every month or sooner. This is where spin-down filters come in handy. Spin-down filters are flushable and reusable. Some are even embedded with automatic flush features, which make system maintenance like a breeze. Spin-down filters usually can remove sediments from 50 microns, which make it a perfect first-step filtration system for your household, especially for people with well water and other natural water sources.

Pros of having a Spin-Down Filter

Having a spin down filter comes very handy especially if you are trying to clean up water from a well. It is more useful than the typical filter cartridge that gets clogged and full in little time. Regular sediment filters have cartridges that vary from 5 to 20 microns. However, spin-down filters have larger micron capacities from 50 to 1000 microns that can vary for every unit. Here are some other pros of having a spin down filter:

• Have larger microns that can filter out large particles such as sand, grit, and other sediments.

• Protect your water softener, household appliances, and plumbing systems from sediment damage.

• Easy to maintain - some models have an auto flush feature.

• Reusable & durable.

• Takes a lot of workload from the succeeding filters and serves as a great first step in a filtration system.

• Easy installation, no welding or glue needed.

• Works well with copper, PEX, PVC, and CPVC pipes.

iSpring Water Systems offers a variety of spin-down filters for you to choose from. Each model varies in features, capacities, and micron availabilities. The smaller the micron, the more sediment it can catch. But it also means that the filter is easier to get clogged and needs to flush more often. If you are not sure which micron size you should have, we recommended starting with the 50-micron and going up, if the filter is clogged too soon. You can also combine 2 different micron size spin-down filters to get the most sediment out from your source water.

Category of Spin-Down Filter

1.        WSP Series

This spin-down filter is our basic model. It offers 5 different micron sizes for its mesh screens that vary from 50 microns to 1000 microns. These mesh screens usually last from 1 to 2 years before the need for replacement.

2.        WSP-SL Series

The WSP-SL series are the same size as the WSP series, and also comes with mesh screens varying from 50 to 1000 microns. The model contains Siliphos, a component that prevents scaling and corrosion. Siliphos is a colorless, tasteless component that forms a thin layer of protection around the pipes. This component prevents water from becoming brown or red and gets rid of hardness scaling.

3.        WSP-GR Series

The WSP-GR Series has a 360-degree head, which makes installation easy (can be installed in any direction). It also has a double-sided scraper, which deep-cleans the filter thus reducing maintenance frequency. The model currently offers two options for micron sizes - 50 and 100 microns.

4.        WSP-ARB Series

The systems of this series come with an integrated auto flushing feature, which makes it perfect for someone who wants minimum system maintenance. You can simply choose from auto, semi-auto, and manual on the HD touch screen to enable the system to flush automatically on a preset schedule. The WSP-ARB Series is also bigger than the basic spin-down filter models. Due to its size, there is no need for it to be flushed as often. The system also comes with 2 micron sizes to choose from (50 and 100 microns), and can be installed in any direction thanks to the 360° rotatable head connection.

5.        WSP-B Series

If you need a spin-down sediment filter with high capacities, but don't mind cleaning it manually, then iSpring WSP-B series would be your best choice. This model has the same size as the WSB-ARB Series but does not come with the auto-flushing feature, thus more cost effective. The model offers two options for micron sizes - 50 and 100 microns.

Getting rid of sediments from your water may just be the first step of whole house water purification. To make your water even safer and cleaner for shower, laundry, dishwashing, and so on, you may need extra whole house water filtrations systems to get rid of other contaminants such as chlorine, iron, lead, mercury, etc. We recommend getting your water tested by the local County Cooperative Extension office to determine the best treatment method.
